In 1939 he was a ARP First aider.
On 14 Dec 1916 Stanley joined Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He served until Nov 1917 when he was transferred to the RAF. He was recorded as 5 feet 9 inches with brown hair and blue eyes. He served in the RAF until 28 May 1921.
