Private Leonard David "Len" Mills
22 Jul 1923 - 03 May 2009
Biography
He married Edith M.F Lee in 1943.
Len was discharged from Auxiliary Units on 14th Apr 1943, the date when call up restrictions were lifted for many Auxilers. He initially joined the Dorset Regiment before going on to serve with Number 6 Commando and 6th Airborne. The Nominal Roll records his certificates being sent to Captain Sparkes on 14th January 1946, long after the Patrol was disbanded.
He would have served in 6 Commando with Lieutenant Roy Fazan, Sussex Scout Section Commander.
Len Mills' father was a gamekeeper. He reportedly died in 1944 after standing on a landmine. He had previously caught US troops stealing pheasants and it would have been surprising if he didn't know where landmines were laid after four years.
