He had been briefly called up to 57th Training Regiment Royal Armoured Corps at Warminster in April 1942, but presumably as a result of being an Auxilier was posted to the Army Reserve to "take up employment of National Importance"
He returned to the same unit in 1943 having been released from Auxiliary Units and entered the General Service Corps as was standard for all new recruits at this stage of the war.
7 Jan 1944 he was transferred to 1 SAS along with a number of other former Auxiliers after an interview.
He was killed in action serving with B Squadron 1 SAS on Operation Bulbasket. He is buried at Rom Communal Cemetery in France.
British Army Casualty Lists report on 4 July 1944 he had previously been reported missing, believed to be a prisoner of war but was now reported not missing. He was finally reported killed in action on or shortly after 7 July 1944.
