Arthur Robert Dunford

Private Arthur Robert Dunford
25 Jan 1925 - 20 Apr 2010
Biography

The sons of Minnine and Robert Dunford.

Arthur's brother, Gerald Dunford joined the Unit for the last three years of the Patrol. He was a replacement for Arthur, though it was 60 years before each discovered that the other had been a member of the Patrol when they talked about what they had done during the war!

One nominal roll has him incorrectly recorded as Dubford which would explain the follow up query stating that a form was not held for him; another nominal roll records him as being discharged on 15 Oct 1943 to join the Royal Navy. This date conflicts with his brother’s enlistment date of 1 Jan 1943 and the stated fact that neither of them were aware of each other’s membership of the patrol until later. Often leaving dates were incorrectly recorded. It appears admin was often done on one day going a lot of Auxiliers the same leaving date when they actually left over the space of months.
