Born in Frinsted, Kent to William and Kate. William senior was also a Gamekeeper. In 1911 the family were living near Ingoldisthorpe in Norfolk. In 1921 William and Kate are living in Dersingham. William senior is a Gamekeeper for His Majesty the King at Sandringham.
He married Emma Hurrell in 1927 in Colchester.
Served in the Royal Norfolk Regiment in the 1920's where his Rugby skills were much in demand.

Gamekeeper of Longleat Estate
In 1966 he was awarded a long service medal for 40 years of service on the Longleat Estate. He learnt his keeping on the Sandringham Estate where he started work at the age of 13. At 17 he joined the Royal Norfolks with whom he served 5 years in India and Mesopotamia. After returning to Sandringham for a short time he moved to Longleat as an under-keeper to the 5th Marquess in 1925. In 1948 he became head keeper to the present Marquess in charge of 6 under-keepers. [Somerset Standard 16 Sept 1966]
In 1946 he was assaulted doing his job of a Gamekeeper, forensic science was used to prove the case.
