On 29th May 1914 Joined the 2nd Scottish Horse Regiment in Aberdeen age 15 years and 11 months, listed as staying at Tollohill Lodge, Bridge of Dee, Aberdeen.
On the 3rd of September 1914 he was discharded as Medically unfit. At some point after this, William became a planter at a rubber plantation in Asia.
On 13th of October 1923 William arrived in London having joined the ship Macedonia in Penang, listed as a Planter Fed Malay States.
On 29th July 1928, married Mary (Mathison) William was 30, Mary 38 years old. Married at Bonnyrigg, William was listed as staying in Aberdeen
On 27th Oct 1949, William dies in Aberdeen.
8th November his house “The Haven” Maryculter was listed for sale
