William Williams had served in the East African Campaign in WW1 and may have known Major RGH Wilson who also served there.
He joined the Home Guard on 27th May 1940.
On 6th January 1943 he was promoted Second Lieutenant.
On 12th March 1944 he was promoted Lieutenant.

6th August 1918 Awarded a Mention in Despatches for distinguished service in the East African Campaign 1917.
15th October 1919 Relinquishes rank of Major on ceasing to be employed.
1st January 1921, Promoted Major, Royal Garrison Artillery Territorial Force (Cornwall and Midlands Medium Brigade).
