Biography
Wilfred Ensum had joined the Local Defence Volunteers early in 1940, but was subsequently recruited to Special Duties. He appears in the Nominal Roll which is unusual for Special Duties personnel, but is also the case for a few others in Sussex.

Career
He served in the East Surrey Regiment. During the First World War as Private 21331. He arrived in France in the later part of the war, joining the 1st Battalion on 17 Oct 1917, but was captured shortly after. He spent the rest of the war in a German Prisoner of War camp.
