Born on the 2nd May 1908 to Stone Quarrier Andrew Strachan and his wife Elspit Strachan at Scotsmill, Kinellar. Scotsmill is WSW of Slacks Forest and west of Tyrebagger.
Growing up in the area, Walter would have known the area well and being a forester in later years, known the forests in great detail.
Married to Elizabeth (Balfour) on 13th April 1929, Walter was 20, Elizabeth was 23 and from Shetland. Walter was listed in 1929 as staying at Gorehead, Caskieben, Kinellar which is at the east side of Tyrebagger Forest.
On 3rd June, the local newspaper reported Mr and Mrs Walter Strachan had a daughter. The address 3 West View.
On 1st Dec 1943, an advert appeared looking for Forestry workers for the Skene District and to apply to him with an address 3 West View, Blackburn.
Walter passed away in 1987 in Inverness age 87 (Jan/Feb 1987).
