Biography

Lieutenant Victor Ludwig Petersen is recorded as a “QMS” or Quartermaster (Sergeant) in the Southwick Patrol diary. He was promoted Second Lieutenant 8 November 1942. He lived in the Droxford area his whole life. He was known as Peter to the men in Auxiliary Units and took a number of photos of the Patrols, which means that he is not present in any of them!

Career

At the age of 18, he joined the 4th Battalion, the Devon Regiment, a Territorial Army unit on 6 Dec 1912. He was called up on 5 Sep 1914 at the start of the First World War, but was discharged as medically unfit on 15 Oct 1914 having not left the country.
