In 1939 he is a Special Constable in the Somerset Constabulary.
Paul Farthing, the son of Tom Farthing, confirms that Tom was in the resistance, but he was always very secretive about his role. Paul remembers a large cache of weapons including a Mills Bomb which were handed in on an amnesty.
Paul recalls that his Father was given a medal for his service in the Auxiliary Units but he no longer has it.
