The son of Samuel Walter Eagle and Alice Eagle (nee Baker). He was the step brother of George Alfred Eagle. He married Doris M Casson in 1921.

A WW1 veteran he was Royal Horse & Royal Field Artillery Driver 74429 enlisting 6 Jan 1915 and served until 31 March 1920. He served in France from 23 Oct 1916. For the first 18 months of his service while he was serving "at home" he had a varied conduct history. He is reprimanded for being absent or late on parade, insolence to Officers and refusing to obey orders. In Sept 1918 he requested to revert to a Driver, from being a Corporal, but denied this was to avoid a trial by Court Martial. He is recorded as 5 foot 4 inches tall.
