Lieutenant Williams was remembered by the daughter of Walter Eva, Group Commander. He was described as good looking and tall. He took over from Lieutenant Dingley when he was promoted to Intelligence Officer for Cornwall, as it became an area in its own right. The Army list records him as Specially Employed (as opposed to on Regimental Duties), which was the case for most Auxiliary Units Scout Section officers.
Definitive documentary evidence comes in the form of a bank book kept by John Dingley, which records Lt R Williams replacing him as a signatory. He will have most likely left Auxiliary Units between April and November 1943. He continues to be listed as Specially employed in the Army list until the first half of 1944, though it appears this is the result of delays in updating the records. He resigned his commission in March 1944 on the grounds of ill health.
