Robert Tweddle was ex Royal Navy originally from Radcliffe, Northumberland the family moved to Widdrington and Robert joined the Royal Navy in 1915 after passing a medical in Ashington. Aged 23 he joined "Z" Company on HMS Calliope, Service Number 4225. He served in various places during WW1 returning home to 7, Grangewood Terrace to start work for the Stobswood Coal Company. He joined the Home Guard in WW2 and taught them how to use hand grenades and other weapons. From this "training" he was selected for the Stobswood Patrol.
On some lists surname is spelt "Tweddell"
