The son of Robert and Emily he married Clara Wagner 27 April 1925.
In 1948 he featured in an article on modern farming on British Pathe News. He can be seen here wearing his Auxiliary Units lapel badge.

A WW1 veteran he was Private 1957 Surrey Yeomanry then 207835 Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment. He was recorded as 5 foot 9 inches tall with grey eyes dark hair and a fresh complexion. He served in B.E.F from 4 March 1916 and was awarded the 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
A large man he was affectionately known as Jumbo.
