From his son, Dave Casson; "He never spoke of his involvement. One day I was exploring a shelf high up in our coal hole and found a box which turned out to be an ammo box full of rifle bullets. When Dad found out he was furious and I never saw them again. Having read about the Auxiliary Units and their expected life expectancy. I am immensely proud of my Father for volunteering."
He was apprenticed at JS Whites shipbuilders of Cowes who were building destroyers during the war.
