Reg spoke of his time in Auxiliary Units to South West Heritage Trust. Reg was one of only a few that were involved in both the Operational and Special Duties sides of Auxiliary Units.
In Somerset at War by Mac Hawkins he recalled; "So secret was our function that we didn't know any other member of the organisation other than those in our immediate area and each individual would only maintain a communication link with an appointed local commander. I had to report directly to Colonel Ingram, who lived at Pightley House, Spaxton [Special Duties] - he was my contact and would have issued me with orders. Our job was also to train for sabotage [Operational Auxiliers] and as part of this I can remember we endeavoured to blow up an old tree with some explosives, but try as we might the thing would not succumb !"
