Donaldson was a joiner for the Drainage Board before the war. He married Vera P Abella in December 1940 and their daughter was born in 1942
He left shortly before the nominal roll was compiled in May 1942. He joined the Lincolnshire Regiment after his basic training with the General Service Corps. In early 1944 he joined the SAS, likely being recruited because of his previous Auxiliary Units experience.
After the war he returned to the Black Sluice Drainage Board and became Foreman, retiring in 1975.
On 10 Dec 1948 he was involved in a nasty accident with a flour lorry, becoming trapped between the lorry and a wall, sustaining serious chest injuries.
He was a keen ballroom dancer and a member of the Conservative Association and also the British Legion.
