Corporal Philip Hugh "Phil" Markham

Biography
Known as Phil his family owned a soft drinks company in Spital Road. Originally known as Markham’s Aerated Waters, Markham and Sons (Maldon) Ltd, Soft Drinks Manufacturers of 19A Spital Road went into liquidation in 1960 and the company was dissolved in 1975.
He was one of four brothers, the eldest of whom had died at Arras in 1917 serving with the Royal Marine Light Infantry. In 1925 he married Jessie Mary Stebbing and they had one son.
Before the war he was involved with Maldon Golf Club, whose 9 hole course is just downstream of Beeleigh Mill, where the Patrol's OB would later be built.
