Peter left school aged 14 and was working full time on the farm. He was the son of Sergeant Hugh Harcourt. He would proudly wear his Auxiliary Unit lapel badge in his buttonhole for years.
The picture shows Peter with his older brother Raymond, who died in the Far East when the Japanese ship he was a POW on was strafed and sunk by Lockheed Lightnings. He was in a team being moved about what is now Sulawesi, building airstrips.
