Career
Patrick Cosgrove joined Auxiliary Units on 16th November 1940, indicating the likely date of formation of the Scout Section. He was just about to turn 28 years old, so was older than the average Army recruit. He had enlisted in June 1940. He left the section in September 1942, being posted to the 7th Battalion Wiltshire regiment, a couple of months after Lieutenant Brain took command. Possibly he was replaced by Jack Blandford who arrived from the same unit. He was compulsorily transferred to the Royal Sussex regiment in April 1943, and was then sent overseas with them to Burma. He was promoted Corporal in 1944, and was killed in action on his birthday at the end of the year.
