Biography
A WW1 veteran he served in Seaforth Highlanders. He married Agnes Swan in 1929.
Local newspapers show that Corporal (until July 1941) Aitchison played a large role in training the local platoon of R.N.F Cadets.

At some time between July and Dec 1941 Matt was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant.
Matt went to Coleshill to train, and as well as sessions at Balmoral they were also sent to the Isle of Wight around D-Day.
It is rumoured that, after the war, Matt's wife found a store of explosives and hand grenades etc in the cupboard under the stairs and that these were dumped down a local mine shaft.
