He is mentioned in the diary of Group Commander Cyril Wellington in Nov 1942. Leslie was discharged from Auxiliary Units to join His Majesty's Forces 16th April 1943.

He married Olive Beatrice Milford 1 Aug 1943. He was always regarded in the family as a giant of a man (he was 6 foot 2) with a great sense of humour and kind to anyone he met as well as an excellent builder/businessman.
