Lieutenant Leslie Donald Cranston "Tiger" Ayles

Biography
Known as Tiger, Leslie Donald Cranston Ayles was too young to have served in the Army during the First World War, but did serve with the Volunteer Training Corps, the equivalent of the Second World War Home Guard. In 1921 he joined the Territorial Army, though just for 84 days as a change of address meant he was discharged from his unit.
He owned the sawmill on the Bickerley in Ringwood during the war. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant from 25th June 1942, promoted 31 Aug 1944 to Lieutenant.
After the war he emigrated to South Africa where he died.
