The son of Walter and Lilla Gertrude Aves. She is incorrectly recorded as his wife on his Home Guard service record. He died at Bradfield St George, Suffolk leaving a wife Doris and son David. His obituary states he worked as a senior executive for Thomas Cook for many years, spending much time abroad. He was a very keen sportsman in his youth and was caped for England in road walking aged 20. He was a keen local historian and wrote 2 books on the local Bradfield St George life where they moved when he retired. He also took a great part in organising local events.

In 1939 he was in the Metropolitan Police War Reserve WR 01781 (Vine Street C Division). He signed up for the Local Defence Volunteers 28 May 1940.
Aves was promoted from Lieutenant to Captain 27 April 1943. He was posted to 20th Essex Battalion Home Guard with the rank of Lieutenant 5th April 1944. The nominal roll records; "W 3066 to Essex TAA 30 June 44".
At the time of a reunion in January 1950 he is the President of the 203rd G.H.Q Reserve (Bath Admiralty) Association and living at 30 Hillcrest Road, Romford, Essex.
