Laurence Tee

Corporal Laurence Tee
29 May 1912 - 16 Apr 1943
Biography

A fatal accident occurred on 16 April 1943, when one of the Royal Signals maintenance men, Corporal Laurence Tee, climbed up a tree at the Thornham Magna Instation to check the aerial.  On his way down the rope broke and he fell down, landing on his back.  He was taken to the hospital in Ipswich where he died.

The rope had been kept in the back of the truck where the replacement batteries were also kept.  Apparently acid from the batteries had spilled onto the rope, causing it to weaken and eventually break. This incident is confirmed in a letter written by Stanley Judson, one of the Auxiliary Units Signals non-commissioned officers who were in charge of servicing the Instations and was also mentioned by Yolande Bromley.

Corporal Tee is buried in St Michael's Churchyard in Boldemere, Sutton Coldfield. He is thought to have been unmarried.
