Ken was a cousin to Auxilier William Southwould. He married Margot Howard in 1949. In 1939 he was a messenger at Plymouth HM Dockyard.
In 1984 he was awarded the Imperial Service Medal on his retirement as a MOD Process and General Supervisor. He died as a result of spending his working life in the Dockyard working with the removal of asbestos.
On 29 April 1941 Ken and his parents and siblings were in the family air raid shelter in the garden of 58 Foliot Road when it sustained a direct hit. Ken was blown clear but his mother, Winnifred and his siblings, Valerie, Brian, Eileen, Margaret and his nephew David died instantly. His father Leonard died the following day.
