Joss Wharton was an ex soldier and a miner. A bit of a rebel often in trouble. Was a capable boxer which helped with his general hell raising.
Related to the Trench brothers in the Patrol by marriage. His wife Lillian died fairly young and his daughter was brought up by the Trench's. Mary Wharton used to sit on Anthony Quayle's knee as a child and would mention it every time he appeared on television.
