John was born on the 26th of December 1914. John's parents were Robert Selbie - a Stonecutter and Margaret (Fyffe). At that time they stayed at 2 Craigie Loanings in Aberdeen.
On the 3rd of July 1940, the local press listed John as being registered for civilian work in Forestry. His occupation was a drapery salesman, so it would appear John was a conscientious objector. It was reported in the Press on the 3rd of August 1918, that Douglas Selbie (John's Bother) was wounded on the 23rd of July, He was previously wounded at Vimy Ridge in 2017. Another brother was serving in Mesopotamia (Iraq). The injuries to his brother may have influenced his decision to avoid going to war!
John Strachan Selbie married was a forestry worker when he married Amelia Thomson on the 29th of April 1942 at 322 Clifton Road in Aberdeen. His address at the time was given as 15 Powis Place Aberdeen.
John Dies in Aberdeen in 1998 age 83.
