In Sept 1944 he was entitled to wear 4 service chevrons.
He lived in Castle Street and worked as a builder though keeping sheep was his great hobby and he had a sheep dog called Patch. His daughter remembers he went away on weekend manoeuvres. She remembers a belt with a knife and pistol on which was kept on top of the wardrobe. All the explosives were returned but Cuthbert Herniman shared out the rum and returned the jug full of water. His brother Harry Prowse was awarded the Military Medal and has a Close in the village named after him.
