Other information

After the war John joined the Carl Rosa Opera company in London and later moved to Male Voice Choirs.

At the start of the war he was a Fire Watcher and a Lance Corporal in the Easington Lane Home Guard. He has a Home Guard certificate, the dates included on this is from the 21st Sept 1941 to 31st Dec 1944.

John never went to the OB at Copt Hill and he only remembered the site at Finchale. This may have been a later OB.

His name is recorded as Mennear on the birth index, 1939 register and undated, Patrol based, nominal roll (amended from Manner); also recorded as Maneer on 30 May 1944 nominal roll; his father is recorded as Minear on his birth index but later, on his marriage and death indexes he is recorded as Mennear.
