Council plumber
John's son, John remembered: 'From the names in Patrol I think they were friends from scouting days. My father never spoke about any of this involvement. If I ever asked him about anything he did during the war all he said was he was in a reserved occupation, in Fire Service and Home Guard. Never spoke about the war and very surprised about what he was up to. I remember as a young boy finding a bayonet, fighting knife and various wire traces which he had hidden years before in a shed. He was not amused, the knife and bayonet were from Home Guard and wire traces were "rabbit snares" from scout days. Never did it dawn on me about "other uses".
I remember starting work as a young man for a government department and having to sign Official Secrets Act and him telling me in no uncertain terms that I would never be able to speak about my job as long as I lived'.
