Ike Wilks was the original Patrol Leader. When ranks came in he was a Private then quickly promoted to Sergeant though he is not recorded on the nominal roll with this rank. He left the Auxiliary Units to train for SOE.

The Patrol were known to the local Home Guard who referred to them as "Wilks' Scouts".

He worked as a cleaner in Kyner House steel rolling mill.

A WW1 veteran he enlisted 26 Jan 1916 and was recorded as 5 foot 5 inches tall. He served with 29th Battalion Royal Fusiliers and saw service in the Balkans. He was demobed 25 Sept 1919. He was frequently hospitalized from Sept 1916 with Malaria.

He is buried in Brotton Cemetery.
