Born Hope Leslie Key, in Nain Tal, India to Captain Berthold (Indian Army) and Mrs Aileen Key. In 1939 she had married Lieutenant Seward Douglas Whitchurch Seaver, Royal Tank Regiment (18 March 1914 - 22 April 1984) then in 1965 she married John Herd.
In Beatrice Temple's diary she notes; April 21 1942 Reigate – all well at Hut. East Grinstead (Curtis and Seaver had a row). West Grinstead (only Purves-Smith). Home for night.
