Sergeant Manning would collect Herbie Thorp every Wednesday night and Sunday afternoon in his sports car to take to training.
Herbie was awarded the Defence Medal at stand down.
He was a very capable man. His son remembers being allowed to “play” with his Sten Gun that was kept in a kitchen cupboard.
