Henry was a WW1 veteran, signing up as Private 485549 in the Royal Sussex Regiment, later 8th Battalion "The Buffs", 7 Sept 1914 he served until 3 June 1919. He was described as 5ft 9 inches tall with a fresh complexion, blue eyes and black hair. Part of the British Expeditionary Force in France he was returned home for a year to Mill Hospital, Chatham, after a gun shot wound to the back 3 Oct 1915. He was then transferred to the Labour Corps.
He was awarded the British War medal and the Victory Medal. He was awarded the British Empire Medal in Dec 1944 and was recorded as a Corporal in the Home guard.
