Other information
His son, Ray, was a young boy when his father joined Auxiliary Units. Although he was secretive about it, equipment could not be easily hidden and Ray remembers the rifle with a long bayonet, which was later exchanged for a revolver and sharp knife. At weekends there were often courses for practising grenade throwing and planting explosives and his father "came home early one morning looking very pleased, having broken into an army camp on the St Keverne side of Zoar Garage and planted a dummy charge and detonator."
