Biography

The son of George and Alice he was one of 17 children, Hedley was the brother of Kenneth and Maurice from Metfield Patrol. He married in Nellie Holmes 1931.  When he left school he worked for his father's butchery business, delivering meat with his horse, "Blitz", and cart and helping in the slaughter house. He helped run the football and cricket club, was a member of the darts team and was a trustee for the village hall.

Other information

Lieutenant Rusted was the Group Commander of Group 2 Suffolk. His Obituary in the Diss Express, 11 March 1983, states; "During the 1939-45 war he was a Captain in the British Resistance Organisation with other Patrols in Hoxne, Weybread, Stradbroke and Laxfield. He was responsible for the overall working of each group who were trained in the art of sabotage to come into operation if an invasion had taken place. Hedley was always ready to help the community in any way he could".
