Hector MacRury lived opposite RAF Benbecula, known before the war as Balivanich Airport and nowadays as Benebecula Airport. This meant he was able to see all the comings and goings from what would likely have been the main target for the Patrol. He was unmarried and lived with his parents John Donald and Johanna MacDonald MacRury.
After the war he worked for the Air Ministry at Benbecula Airport as Foreman of Trades. He is buried in Nunton Cemetery on Benbecula.

Benbecula (Beinn Na Faoghla) 2 Patrol | Patrol Leader | Unknown | 03 Dec 1944 |
Before the war Hector had been in the Lovat Scouts, a Territorial Army Unit recruiting from the Western Isles and Highlands. Likely he was exempted from service for some reason when they were called up in 1939. However his training would have made him well suited to become an Auxilier.
