His daughter Valerie recalls her Dad as a very public-spirited person. He was involved with the Scout Movement all his life, well into his 70's, he was also in the Home Guard and Civil Defence. George wasn't a native of Suffolk but actually a Londoner, he worked as a tinsmith at United Dairies in Halesworth with his father and brother.
His family had moved there about 1937. The family left Suffolk in 1947, then spent 7 years in Cardiff, in 1954 George left United Dairies and the family settled in his wife's home town of Blackburn and have been here ever since.
Daughter Valerie; "I've told my family this discovery about Dad's involvement in Churchill's secret army. My middle son (who was very close to his Grandad) remembered their chats about the war years and that Dad had given him several handbooks that he was issued with, for safekeeping."
