George Purvis Russell Balfour-Kinnear was the son of James Balfour-Kinnear and Catherine Fraser and was born 1888 in Edinburgh. The family lived at 35, Queen Street, Edinburgh. He married Ethal Anna Purvis-Russell-Hamilton-Mongomery 7 Aug 1913 but they divorced in 1919. He remarried Elfrida Mary Miller at Kinross 17 July 1919
In WW1 he was a Commissioned Lieutenant to the Royal Flying Corps working with Kite Balloons. He went to France as Equipment Officer with the Royal Flying Corps in 1916 and took part in the First Battle of the Somme. He was Mentioned in Despatches from the Somme. He is recorded as permanently unfit for Balloon Work 22 March 1917. On 15 Aug 1918 he is recorded as unfit for general service but fit for light squadron duties and is noted as having a "through knowledge of engines and motor engineering". He resigned his commission 11 March 1919.
He apparentyl held a party for the Auxiliary units men at the end of the war.
Post war he was a Barrister and Author. A keen fisherman he wrote the books "Flying Salmon", "Spinning Salmon" and "Catching Salmon & Sea Trout"
He lived at The Laws, Duns, Berwickshire. Selling up in 1964 and moved to Kirmahoe, Dumfries.
