Motor mechanic
"My father (George Johnson) was living in Morpeth during WW2. He was a motor mechanic and worked in Newcastle by the river in some of the ship yards at the time. In 1939 he worked in a garage owned by David Craig. He must have been very useful as motor man for the Patrol and able to travel freely possibly picking up messages from the Tyne office that had a radio.
He was originally from Berwick upon Tweed along with my mother, my father's father was Station Master at Tweedmouth station.
I can only remember a little bit from the time, my father was friendly with Alan Carmichael and Jimmy Green (both Paxtondene Patrol). We moved away from Morpeth in 1946/7. I remember visiting Jimmy's farm at Longhorsley. My father also went to Balmoral".
Information from Norman Johnson, son of George Johnson (Hebron Patrol), Norman was born 1940. He still has his fathers lapel badge. Norman himself ended up in the RAF with a posting to RAF Acklington, Northumberland 1962-67.
