In 1939 George was a Special Constable. The son of George and Mary Sanders he married Emma Coombe in 1921. He was the brother-in-law of Auxilier Richard Wearing who married his sister Annie. He is buried at Lezant where his memorial date of death differs from probate.

A WW1 veteran he served as Private 527016 in 445th  Agricultural Company, Labour Corps. He enlisted 23 April 1915. He suffered a gun shot wound to the head 18 Aug 1916 and spent his 108 days of recovery from 5 Sept 1916 in Whitchurch, Cardiff Military Hospital. He is recorded as being 5 foot 7 inches tall
