Known as Jack he was the next door neighbour to Auxilier Ralph Weller.
He was a great nephew of Bickford-Smith, the inventor of the safety fuse and married Irene Guy in 1926. A one time student at Oxford, he had served as a Second Lieutenant (22 Aug 1915) in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry serving in the trenches during WW1 and was awarded the George Cross. He played cricket for Cornwall. In 1939 he was on the Reserve of Officers.
