It is believed this may be George Alfred Colliss, 6407667 born 21 Mar 1911 in Chichester. On 11 Nov 1943 he was transferred from the Royal Sussex Regiment to the East Surrey Regiment. He was killed in Italy on 12 May 1944 fighting with the 1/6th Battalion East Surreys. In 1939 he was working as a building labourer living at home in Westhampnett with his parents, his father Alfred being a farm carter. George's brother Gordon Victor Collis had been killed aboard HMS Hood on 26 May 1941. He had married Kathleen Hanmore at Chichester at the end of 1941, confirming he was in the area the Scout Section was operating in. Their son Michael was born at the end of 1942. He was best man for the Chichester wedding of his brother Robert on 5 Sep 1942.
We would be pleased to hear from anyone who can confirm this or refute the assumption that he was a member of Auxiliary Units.
