His Home Guard enrolment form at the National Archives records his joining the Home Guard on 31 May 1940. He is then discharged on 9 Oct 1942, with no destination given. Possibly this is the date he joins the Auxiliary Units. Even if this is not the case he must have been in ordinary Home Guard prior to joining. His name appears on the nominal roll dated 30 May 1944 meaning he did not leave before this.
