The son of Richard and Sarah, he married Lilian Connatty in 1921 in London. A WW1 veteran he served as Private 178806 in Army Service Corps (Motor Transport). He had a medical discharged due to a thyroid problem. He was recorded as being 6 foot tall with grey eyes, a dark complexion and black hair.
