Career
He joined the regular Home Guard on 31 May 1940.
He was recruited from the Home Guard to Auxiliary Units. Fred White formed the Patrol, apparently having been approached by Colonel Russell, who was the commander of the Purbeck Home Guard Company.
Dorset Home Guard records show his promotion to Corporal on 1st April 1941. Initially the men remained on the roll of the Home Guard until late in 1942, when they move to 203 Battalion.
Fred left on 20 Jan 1944 for the British Army. He joined a field bakery unit, working just behind the front lines.
