Kilford died when living at 10 Museum Street, Jersey in 1950 aged only 47.
His son spoke of his father being a very good vehicle mechanic, seemingly able to recover large vehicles that others couldn’t, and that he had a garage near Botley, which still operates as a garage to this day. He also outlined how Fred set up a successful business emptying the latrines at all the military bases that had formed in the local area - most likely to be the camps of personnel gathering for the D-day landings. Fred seemingly sold out his half of the businesses.
