Frank was from Ditchiling in Sussex and knew the area well.
In Apr 1942 he married Olive Parsons, daughter of a Henfield market gardener at Chanctonbury in Sussex. He had continued to play cricket for Ditchling during the war, switching his loyalties to Henfield when he moved to live there.

Frank Mayston was the Royal Engineers Corporal for Sussex. He helped train Patrols in explosives and was also involved in the construction of Operational Bases. He was involved early on in the construction of the Airship Hole in Kent, but did not see it finished before moving to Sussex. In his spare time, with others, they built the Tottington Manor OB beneath their Headquarters. He also constructed an assault course in the grounds. Once a month he would travel to Coleshill to collect new stores of explosives.

Frank Mayston attended reunions at Tottington Manor in the 1990s. He was interviewed for Stewart Angell's book and also Arthur Ward's Resisting the Nazi Invader.
